Abstract

The print media in India, both national and regional, despite the strong presence of electronic media, enjoys enormous reach and has a great impact on the minds of its readers enriching their information, shaping their perceptions and providing them with choices. Hence, among other things, undoubtedly it also has a role and a responsibility in creating proper understanding between neighbouring countries. This is why an exploration of media perception with regard to China may be considered urgent and interesting. The chapter makes an attempt to meet these requirements with a view to achieving a better understanding of media perception with regard to China. The objective of this chapter is twofold: first, it attempts to explore the national and regional print media’s perception of China, and second, it makes a comparative assessment of perception at the national and the regional levels. For the national print media, this chapter has chosen The Times of India, The Hindu, The Indian Express and two financial newspapers, The Economic Times and The Financial Express.
