Abstract

<h3>Abdominal Tuberculosis in Children.</h3> —Vyas (<i>Indian J Child Health</i><b>12</b>:196 [March] 1963) presented a clinical analysis of 170 cases of abdominal tuberculosis and the results of various forms of antitubercular treatment in 118 cases. Special evaluation was given to the Indian indigenous preparation, capyna compound. According to age, incidence was highest between the ages of 1 and 2. Ninety-six per cent of the patients were from low socioeconomic groups. Duration of disease before diagnosis varied from 4 weeks to 6 mo. Only four cases were acute, the others were chronic. Fever, diarrhea, abdominal distension, pain in the abdomen, loss of weight, and weakness were the common symptoms. Various vitamin deficiencies were common and anemia of various grades was present. Lymphatic enlargements were found in the majority of the patients. Tache cérébrale was seen in 87 patients. The Mantoux test was positive in 90% of the patients and erythrocyte sedimentation
