Abstract

Sub regionalism remains a controversial issue in the present. The speed of economic integration has further placed the prospects of regional movements at the forefront of internal political scenario. The forces of regionalism are playing a critical role in shaping the new India. The recent demand for the creation of the separate state of Telangana in Andhra Pradesh and the raging controversies related to it has once again opened the debate, whether smaller states are better for the development of the nation. The demand for smaller sates has started again and no one knows where this will all lead and end. The number of states in India has increased in the past decade which makes me ponder over the future of India and hinges me over the point of unity of India. In the end however the question remains as to whether the growth of these regional groups helps or hinders in the development of the nation. The method of research adopted for this particular project and study is doctrinal in nature. As the project analyzes the impact of sub-regionalism movements in India and also throws light on the present political scenario. The aim and objective of this project is to do a detailed study of the sub-regionalism movements and the political scenario getting affected by it. The researcher attempts to do this by studying the history of formation of states and the reasons for the newly formed states and all the developments backdrop of the entire concept, also an attempt has been made to make certain suggestions and recommendations on the issue emerging. The hypothesis behind this research is that Sub-regionalism movement for new states is a threat to unity of our country. Therefore the basic question which emerges is “Can sub-regionalism movement lead us in the direction of a balanced and equitable modernization?”
