Abstract
This index presents a list of place names and concepts relevant to the discussion on incense in ancient Israel. In Wellhausen's position there are two subjects which have to be distinguished, viz. 1. the date of the introduction of incense offerings in general in the Israelite cult, 2. the date of the appearance of the incense altar in the Israelite-Jewish cult. There are two passages, I Sam. ii 28 and Is. vi 6, which are important in this discussion. Some of the early expeditions were evidently undertaken only for the sake of acquiring incense. Keywords: ancient Israel; incense altar; Israelite-Jewish cult
