Abstract

This index presents a list of modern authors of the book titled Philo of Alexandria On Virtues. The entries are arranged in alphabetical order. Philo of Alexandria was a member of one of the most prominent families of the large and influential Jewish community in Alexandria. One of the factors that made Philo so attractive to Christians was the way that he combined Greek philosophy, especially Middle Platonism, with exegesis. The eclectic nature of his thought and the size of his corpus make his writings a particularly important source for our understanding of several Hellenistic philosophical traditions. The combination of Middle Platonism and Jewish exegesis also makes Philo important for the study of Gnosticism. Keywords:Gnosticism; middle Platonism; Philo of Alexandria
