Abstract

In-depth modeling, analysis and design of a new balanced active microwave frequency doubler is presented. The effects of terminations, phase and gain imbalance on recombination are determined through extensive computer modeling. An actual physical model of the relatively low-cost MMIC BJT nonlinear element is employed to simulate the antiseries balanced doubler. The balanced frequency doubler realized, utilizing the approach presented, exhibits harmonic conversion gain and good fundamental rejection over a significant frequency band. >
