Margaret Gowing London: Macmillan 1974 Vol 1 pp xi + 503 Vol 2 pp xiv + 559 price £10 each Professor Gowing's official history of the development of atomic energy in Britain during the post war period until 1952 makes consistently interesting and often compulsive reading. Her scholarly use of the previously secret records, coupled no doubt with the memories of some of the leading participants, has produced an outstanding work of reference.
