Abstract

This paper has as objective to describe the artificial incubation of eggs Kinosternon scorpioides (Linnaeus, 1766) and check the influence of incubation temperature and moisture on the weight and size of neonates in captivity. Excavations were performed daily in the area of spawning grounds reproduction of Scientific Breeding Projeto Bio-Fauna – ISARH/UFRA, Belém, Pará. The 51 eggs collected were kept in six incubator with values temperature and moisture constants, set at 29,6 ºC and 79,0% (incubator 1), 30,5 ºC and 78,8% (incubator 2), 31,5 ºC and 78,7% (incubator 3), 36,5 ºC and 74,0% (incubator 4), 37,5 ºC and 73,8% (incubator 5) and 38,5ºC and 73,9% (incubator 6). The infants were weighed and the biometric parameters were measured. Births occurred in incubator 1 and 2 and the neonates showed different weight and body size (p

Summary

Introduction

This paper has as objective to describe the artificial incubation of eggs Kinosternon scorpioides (Linnaeus, 1766) and check the influence of incubation temperature and moisture on the weight and size of neonates in captivity.
