Abstract

1. The ESCF in the thread and the LCF of studs in a connection with a pinch nut with metric thread of 12–200-mm diameter depend on the ratios P/ρ and d/P. 2. A small pitch of the thread of studs increases the effective cross-sectional area of the thread and makes it possible to reduce the ESCF in the thread of a pair on condition that the radius of the root is constant, and to increase the LCF limit of the joint in stress and load amplitude in comparison with the coarse normal pitch of the thread. 3. The influence of a small pitch and of the radius of the thread root on the LCF of the connection is less noticeable in studs with large diameter than in studs with small diameter; this is due, firstly, to the parallel effect of the scale factor, and secondly, to the fact that the thread becomes finer when the nominal diameter of the stud is increased in accordance with the requirements of the standards and the investigated values of d/P come closer together.
