Abstract

Currently used assembly systems require a high level of flexibility and reconfigurability to face the increased requirements for mass customization and frequent technological changes. This results in an increase of the time-to-manufacture and the manufacturing costs which contests with the goals of the manufacturers. To mitigate the challenges caused by this sophistication, we introduce a holistic approach and a standardized control system. Later on we discuss its functionality and validate it. We have found that utilizing these minimizes the implementation effort and supports developing implementations suitable for industrial applications.
