Increasing occurrence of extreme cold surges in North China during the recent global warming slowdown and the possible linkage to the extreme pressure rises over Siberia

Abstract

• North China has the most significant increasing trend of cold extremes in China. • Frequency of extreme cold surges is much higher after a transition point of 2008. • It could be attributed to the increased pressure rise extremes over Siberia.
