Abstract
FARM BACKGROUND 150 Holstein-Friesian cows averaging approximately 8000 l/305 day yield feeding maize and grass silages plus round bale silage and a blend as a total mixed rations (TMR) all-year-round calving grouped together and fed the same TMR during housing when at grass the cows are split into ‘highs’ and ‘lows’: the highs are buffer fed and the lows receive limited access to this buffer at milking times only.
