Abstract

Productivity is a useful gauge of management's ability and effectiveness in utilizing the work force. In a meter‐reading department, productivity is affected by diverse working conditions, different types and locations of meters, customer demand, number of meter readers, and other comparable factors. This constantly fluctuating environment prompted the New Haven (Conn.) Water Company to refine its planning and scheduling capabilities.
