SummarySalmonella typhosa endotoxin produced hypothermia, leukopenia, and death in both germ-free and conventional guinea pigs. The lethal dose was identical in both, but hypothermia and leukopenia were produced in conventional guinea pigs by only one-third of the amount required in germ-free animals.
