Abstract

Harmonic oscillators have generally demonstrated lower phase noise, higher frequencies, and less DC power consumption as compared to fundamental oscillators. However, oscillator designs using simple harmonic techniques have persistent issues with low output power and instability. Herewith, we propose an oscillator design at 300GHz with common-source amplifiers to stabilize signals in voltage-controlled oscillators. A buffer at the final output stage also increases power gain. Preliminary simulation shows that output powers up to -26.5 dBm are possible, a significant improvement over -46 dBm in previous work.
