Abstract

SummaryExperiments on rats bearing a transplant of an adrenal cortical carcinoma show: that there is a significant increase in the reticulocyte count 2 weeks after transplants are made as well as increases in other peripheral red cell parameters; that there is an absolute polycythemia, as indicated by significant increases in total blood volume and total red cell volume with simultaneous normal plasma volumes at 4 weeks after transplantation; that there is no significant change in total white cell or differential counts up to 4 weeks but a significant decrease in total circulating esinophils at 3 weeks posttransplantation; and that there is an erythropoietic stimulating factor, presumed to be erythropoietin, in the serum 17 days after tumor transplantation.
