Abstract
Abstract A formula for the photoincreased van der Waals attractive force is derived, which includes the effects of the frequency of illuminated electromagnetic waves and of the size of particles. The interparticle interaction energy as a function of the frequency of the electromagnetic wave shows a sharp maximum at the resonance frequency. In the small limit of the size, the van der Waals force under on-resonance irradiation conditions approaches that of molecules and in the large limit the force is drastically reduced. The largest interparticle interaction is found at the size of a few tens of nm. This novel effect is found to be typical of nano-systems.
