Abstract

This paper presents an approach for incorporating actual voltage stability operating limits (VSOL) in the composite power system adequacy evaluation. The VSOL curves are fitted into simplex-type straight lines and added in the linear programming model for minimizing load curtailment as additional constraints. The incorporated voltage stability limits are those calculated for the operators in the power system control center. The introduction of the actual limits therefore leads to adequacy evaluation closer to the operation reality with very little overhead since the voltage stability operating limits are pre-calculated for system operation. The case studies for BC Hydro's 500/230 kV system are given and discussed.
