Abstract

In Brief Optimal nutrition support in critically ill children is associated with improved outcomes and decreased mortality. Nutrition provision often competes with other care priorities in critically ill patients. The pediatric critical care nutrition support guidelines supplement clinician knowledge and inform best practices for nutrition therapy in this vulnerable patient population. Proper nutrition support is essential to achieving optimal outcomes in critically ill children. This article summarizes the key points of the recently published Guidelines for the Provision and Assessment of Nutrition Support Therapy in the Pediatric Critically Ill Patient, which were developed by the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition. Practical tips to incorporate these guidelines into clinical practice are provided.
