Abstract

The importance of spirituality and organized religion in coping with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and other medical illnesses has been cited in the literature in recent years. This article describes how one dialysis unit recognized the importance of spiritual resources for patients and incorporated the role of chaplain into its interdisciplinary health care team. The resulting enhancement of team functioning and sensitivity to patients' spiritual needs is discussed.
