Abstract

Based on Hellinger–Reissner functional and with the inclusion both of displacements and stresses, a hybrid stress formulation of dynamic finite element method is derived in this paper. In this formulation, the displacements are separated into zeroth displacement modes and high-order incompatible dynamic dis placement modes which are related to the dynamic characteristics. The rationality, feasibility and effec tiveness of the present method are also numerically justified. Copyright © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
