Abstract

The differential cross sections dσ K for the incoherent scattering of 662 ke V gamma rays from a 6.0 curie of caesium-137 by the K-shell electrons of platinum, bismuth and thorium were studied experimentally using the NaI(Tl) scintillation detectors and fast-slow coincidence method: These cross sections were divided by the Klein-Nishina cross sections dσ F for free and stationary electrons at different scattering angles. The differential cross-section ratios so obtained are compared with the values calculated on the basis of different theories involving some simplifying assumptions and with the previously available experimental values.
