Abstract

Abstract We discuss nuclear production processes within the Glauber multiple scattering theory. The incoherent production cross section is a sum of contributions from diagonal and non-diagonal matrix elements. It has always been assumed that the non-diagonal terms could be neglected. We show that this is not the case. As a result the conventional incoherent cross section is greatly reduced. Corrections due to correlations are also considered.
