Abstract

This chapter looks at inclusive practices in physical education and how both students and teachers benefit when inclusivity is planned for, and managed. It draws on the inclusive physical education programme delivered via the Physical Education and Sports Teacher Academy (PESTA), which oversees the professional development needs of physical education teachers in Singapore. Case studies cover students diagnosed with the following learning difficulties: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and lower intellectual ability, as these reflect the most commonly diagnosed learning difficulties in mainstream Singapore schools. As teachers work through the chapter, they are encouraged to reflect on their existing practices and how other skills and strategies may impact student learning in their lessons.
