Abstract

We present predictions for the inclusive productions of D mesons originating from bottom hadrons at the CERN large hadron collider in the general-mass variable-flavour-number scheme at next-to-leading order. We present results using two methods to describe the transition for b → D: a two-step transition b → B → D, based on the b → B fragmentation functions and the spectra for B → D as measured by CLEO and a one-step transition based on the fragmentation functions for b → D. The results of both approaches are compared.
