Abstract

Inclusion in all areas of life is a fundamental goal for people with a learning disability and government policy has emphasised this aim in education. At times, however, schools may suggest that they lack the resources or knowledge to make this a reality. This book acknowledges these difficulties, but offers a range of practical suggestions and resources to help teachers provide meaningful educational experiences to children with learning disabilities and other special needs. The book begins with a short introduction outlining the legislation and philosophy that has promoted inclusion. The next few chapters look at ways of easing the transition into mainstream education, providing strategies for grouping children to best meet the needs of all the children in the school and how to make the school curriculum more inclusive.
