Abstract

The inclusion of Artificial Intelligence resources in Fieldbus devices increases their accuracy and provides the means for a more efficient operation. It is best done through the development of new function blocks compliant with Foundation Fieldbus standards. This approach just adds new components of software to the highest layer of the FF protocol stack, profiting from the underlying communication system. Also, FF standards provide mechanisms for creating new functional blocks preserving the interoperability, which is an important feature to be considered. So, a new Neural Network functional block is proposed and preliminary issues are discussed.
