Abstract
Despite preventative measures being undertaken, incidents and accidents at work occur. Incidents and accidents are two different things; they are, however, related. This article provides readers with an overview of accidents and incidents, key definitions are offered, and reporting procedures are detailed. Near misses and dangerous occurrences are also discussed. It is important that accidents, incidents, dangerous occurrences and near misses are reported and acted upon. In some instances, this is a statutory requirement that employers and employees must adhere to. The article provides an example of an incident report.
