Abstract

Background: Carcinomas arising from the gallbladder are highly aggressive tumours with limited treatment options available beyond surgical resection. Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), including adenosquamous carcinoma, makes up 1–4% of gallbladder carcinomas which often present at an advanced stage with worse prognosis than conventional adenocarcinoma. A pure SCC of the gallbladder is even rarer, with reported incidence of 1% of all gallbladder carcinomas.1,2
