Abstract

For YZ-LiNbO3 acousto-optic devices that use the side entry and total internal reflection techniques, interaction efficiency is calculated using the Green’s function model and the proper expressions for the piezoelectric surface wave and Gaussian beam. This theoretical calculation taking the special interaction geometry into account shows that the incident-angle bandwidth for P-polarized light is about twice as large as that for S-polarized light for YZ-LiNbO3 devices, which agrees with previously reported experimental results.
