Abstract

Three hundred sixty-four extracted human mandibular incisors were studied radio-graphically with metallic endodontic probes inserted into the canals in order to determine the incidence of two main root canals in these teeth. It was found that 41.4 per cent of the sample had two clinically separate canals. Only 1.3 per cent of the sample, however, had two separate canals with two separate apical foramina. In the remaining teeth with two canals, the canals merged into one canal before exiting the tooth through one apical foramen.
