Abstract

Oil palm, is cultivated in tropical areas of India under irrigated conditions. It has been observed that the palms in certain parts of India are being attacked by a number of insect pests viz. leaf web worm, slug caterpillar and psychids which are of minor importance on other crops. In recent surveys, incidence of Silvanus sp was observed for the first time feeding on the leaflets of mature oil palm. The pest which is commonly reported in stored grains, coupled with leaf rotting fungi on oil palm leaflets. This study calls for further investigation on the pest and fungi.
