Abstract

A series of studies to determine the occurrence of R factors, imparting resistancy to tetracycline, associated with Aeromonas hydrophila isolates from Southeast Asia and South American aquarium fish were made. Resulting data indicate infection rates of 25.5% and 1.2%, respectively. Additional studies in fish outlet shops show a direct relationship between prophylactic use of tetracycline and the presence of R factors carriage by the Aeromonas hydrophila isolated from aquaria.
