Abstract

A total of 5,327 ayu were collected from the River of Yahagi, Aichi Pref., by cast net from April 1973 to November 1977 (Table 1). Numbers of young were collected from the Ibi River, Gifu Pref. (400), in May 1974, and the Nuchii River, Hokkaido (153), in July 1975 using the same gear. In May 1975, 335 young ayu were collected from Lake Biwa (Fig. 1). Juveniles were also obtained by artificial crossing of five pairs of adult fish from the Kiso River, Aichi Pref.
