Incidence of glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency and some observations in patients with haemoglobinuria.

Abstract

362 male children were investigated for red cell enzyme G6PD deficiency by a simple qualitative test. The incidence of G6PD deficiency in this part of the country was found to be 2.76 per cent. Observations on 8 cases of haemoglobinuria showed that 5 cases had a deficiency of this enzyme. The possible aetiological factors in these cases are discussed.
