Abstract

The article a month by month survey of the diagnoses made in the general outpatient department of Patan Hospital in Lalitpur District. The survey began in Poush 2043 and ended in Mangsir 2044.A total of 79,404 diagnoses were made over the tweleve month period by the Doctor's Assistants, The greatest number of disgnoses were in the category of infectious disease (49%), followed by the category of preventive/ family planning (18%). within the category of infectious disease, the leading system involvement was gastro-intestinal (40%), followed by respiratory (34%) and skin (13%).Seasonal fluctuations were found for the diarrhoeal disease (peak incidence Jestha-Shrawan), acute respiratory infections (two peaks: one in Chaitra-Baishak, the other in Bhadra-Asoj), and skin infections (peak in Shrawan-Asoj). The hepatitis epidemic in Kathmandu Valley was also documented, with a peak in Bhadra. Enteric Fever was found to peak in Asoj.
