Abstract

In this study we report on the prevalence of Bonamia ostreae in populations of flat oyster, Ostrea edulis L., from different origins (natural settlement, Italy, France, England), cultured in several areas of the Galician coast (“rias” of Ortigueira, Sada, Arosa and Vigo) during 1988. Whereas B. ostreae was not detected in two stocks imported from Italy and France with a short duration of culture in Galicia (1–2 months), the highest prevalence (45.2% of infestation) was obtained in a stock from Italy with a culture period of 12 months.
