Bacterial colonization of the bile duct (bactobilia) is frequently found in patients with biliary obstruction and gallstone disease. Very few studies, however, have addressed the incidence, the spectrum and predisposing factors for bactobilia. The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the microbial spectrum of the bile in patients undergoing ERCP and patterns of antibiotic resistance. In addition, we analyzed predisposing factors for bactobilia.
