Abstract
Objective To investigate the incidence of bone marrow lesion (BML) in patients with osteoarthritis (OA) by MRI and analyze the risk factors of BML. Methods A total of 140 OA patients were taken as the objects and were examined by MRI to inivestigate the incidence of BML. All patients were divided into BML group and non BML group according to the examination results. The possible risk factors were collected by questionnaire and analyzed by the single factor and multi-factor analysis. Results Among the 140 cases, 78 cases suffered BML, and the incidence of BML was 55.71%. Single factor analysis showed that age, body mass index(BMI), duration, smoking, drinking were the risk factors on complication of BML in patients with OA(χ2=5.712, 6.661, 8.762, 4.294, 5.565, P<0.05). Multi-factor analysis showed that duration≥ 3 years, BMI≥25 kg/m2, age≥60, drinking≥3 times a week, smoking≥10 every day were the major risk factors for the incidence of BML in patients with OA (OR=3.187, 1.984, 1.429, 1.328, 1.082, P<0.05). Conclusions OA patients have higher risk of BML. BML in patients with OA is correlated with age, BMI, duration, smoking and drinking.
