In‐building and home networks in the FTTH context – a network operator's perspective

Abstract

Fibre to the Home (FTTH) networks enable high‐speed access and require the deployment of new fibre‐based in‐building networks. There are challenges for network operators with respect to cost‐efficient deployment of in‐building networks: important points are concerned with network design and planning, environment and regulation and with network termination. Associated home networks have to be able to cope with the increasing bit rate demands of emerging Internet services in a sustainable way; the energy efficiency of home communication networks has become a topic of increasing importance.
