Abstract

A 79-year-old woman was admitted for severe dehydration leading to acute renal failure. A 14F dialysis catheter was inserted into the right internal jugular vein under ultrasound guidance. Despite the lack of clinical evidence of bleeding or hematoma, chest radiography showed that the catheter was awkwardly bent (A, arrows), and its misplacement was confirmed by blood gas analysis. Subsequently, multiphase computed tomography angiography was performed, which revealed that the catheter had passed through the internal jugular vein (B/Cover, left) and had been misplaced into the subclavian artery (B/Cover, right).
