Noninvasive blood pressure devices are commonplace and necessary in most emergency departments, but did you know that they have the potential to cause serious harm or even death to patients with intravenous access? It seems almost impossible, yet there have been 3 reports of this type of incident to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) MedWatch program and to the Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) in the past 18 months!1
