Abstract

The legal and economic consequences of inadequate surveys are best illustrated by actual examples. Consequences occur from both property and construction surveys. Examples of both are given. Gores and overlays are two common problems created by inadequate surveys. Inaccurate property acquisition maps cause excessive condemnation of property and increase costs. Problems are sometimes created by inaccurate surveys made years before the difficulty becomes known.
