Abstract

The inactivation of radioactive histamine was measured in vitro in lung, liver, stomach, small intestine, kidney and skin tissue from male and female rats. All the tissues inactivated histamine but only the kidney showed any sex difference in inactivation. Gonadectomy or injection of testosterone had no effect on the histamine inactivation in tissue from liver or small intestine in male and female rats. The methylation of radioactive histamine was measured in vitro in kidney tissue from male and female rats. It decreased after castration in male rats. Injection of testosterone increased the methylation in gonadectomized male and female rats but only slightly affected it in control male or female rats.
