Abstract

<h2>Summary</h2> This paper summarises the development of welfare provision for disabled people in Great Britain up to the introduction of the recent community care policies. It focuses in particular on industralisation and the effects this had on the lives of disabled people. The role of organisations <i>of</i> disabled people is also discussed.
