Abstract

The 35S-levels in serum and in unstimulated saliva of rabbits were determined after a single intravenous injection of [ 35S]-sulphate. The highest serum level was at the first sampling (15 min), whereas in saliva it was several hours before maximum 35S-levels were reached. Variations in the relationship between macromolecular- 35S and free [ 35S]-sul-phate secreted into saliva were studied by ultrafiltration and gel chromatography. Compared to estimates of total glycoprotein in saliva, maximum 35S-labelling of secretory proteins was found after 12–36 h.
