Abstract
Slices of adrenal glands from fetal, newborn and adult armadillos (Dasypus novemcinctus) synthesized in vitro Δ4-3-ketosteroids, including cortisol and corticosterone, from endogenous substrate or added 7-3Hprogesterone. ACTH stimulated steroidogenesis. Steroid synthesis tended to increase with advancing age; no qualitative changes were found. Similarly, testes from fetal armadillos converted labeled progesterone to 17α-hydroxyprogesterone, androstenedione and testosterone. (Endocrinology 76: 43,1965)
