Abstract

In human, the telomer-ase plays an important role in cancer. Most somatic cellslack telomerase activity and correspondingly lose telomericDNA, thus are limited their proliferative capacity. Cancercells can overcome this proliferative block through theillegitimate transcriptional up-regulation of the gene encod-ing the catalytic subunit of the enzyme.
