Abstract

1. 1. The rate of oxidation of palmitate to CO2 or acid-soluble products by new born pig liver homogenates was low and increased fourfold by day 7. This activity declined to the lowest levels by dy 50. Stimulation of palmitate oxidation by exogenous carnitine was marginal at all ages. 2. 2. The rate of oxidation of palmitate by heart homogenates was essentially unchanged in pre-weaning animals and declined somewhat by day 50, Carnitine stimulation was also marginal in this tissue at all ages.
