Abstract

ABSTRACT This research aims to develop a nontoxic PEEK-based acrylic acid-functionalized nTiO2 reinforced polymer nanocomposite fabricated by injection molding. Functional groups in PEEK, synthesized nTiO2, and PEEK+nTiO2 composite have been identified through FTIR analysis. Effect of acrylic acid-functionalized nTiO2 particles on the thermal degradation was investigated using DSC, TGA analysis, and biocompatibility of PEEK+nTiO2 using in-vitro studies. The cytotoxicity level as 2.7% (grade 1, slight toxic level) and cell viability as 97.3% were identified in the direct method of cytotoxicity assessment. The indirect cytotoxicity method revealed slight toxic level. Excellent cell growth was identified through cell adhesion study using SEM analysis.
